Gabriel Square Garden - St Albans, London

Ideal garden lighting has a triple purpose: providing functional illumination that guarantees safety and improves orientation; enhancing the environment with decorative lighting and refined light effects; last but not least, garden lighting should be human centric, aiming at the creation of an atmosphere that improves the quality of life. Gabriel Square garden is the example of how functionality, attention to aesthetic and to people wellness merge into a lighting project.

This beautiful residential development, winner of ‘Home of The Year’ at Sunday Times British Homes Awards and gold in the ‘Best Interior Design’ category, as well as silver for ‘Best House’ at the recent WhatHouse? Awards, includes 80 new smart homes set around a landscaped garden square. Combining high-quality contemporary and traditional materials with a beautiful selection of plants, this garden represents an attractive and elegant setting for Gabriel Square residents. The central square at the heart of the development is designed to encourage both formal and informal relaxation, with a backdrop of evergreens, open lawns with semi-mature trees and a mirrored sculpture by the award-winning British artist David Harber, along with natural play elements for younger residents. Small front gardens at lower and ground level separate the common areas, with grasses and bamboos softening the linear residential façades.

The lighting project of the garden and central square designed by Kingfisher Lighting using Arcluce luminaires observes the elegant style of the development and creates a human-centric environment with a soft, welcoming atmosphere. The use of numerous in-ground recessed luminaires with both round and linear shape allowed the creation of light paths that are suggestive and useful at the same time: 335 Arcluce INGROUND110 short, INGROUND260 and STONE55 floor-recessed lights improve safety and mark the space through the access area and pathways. Natural details are properly enhanced by KRION-IN that uplights the surrounding hedges and walls, and by TITO55 floodlights in Spike version which illuminate greenery and trees. TULA with mono directional optic was selected for façade lighting.

All luminaires were chosen in 2700K and 3000K to distribute a warmer colour temperature across the area, creating a calm, relaxing atmosphere for all residents.
